Vinnova Grant: Mimbly, Electrolux Professional, and Samhall Awarded SEK 8.7M for Circular Laundry Initiative

Mimbox 2 with Electrolux washing machines at Samhall facility in Sweden.

Every time commercial laundry facilities wash clothes, pristine water is wasted and microplastics enter our oceans. It is a massive, systemic challenge—one that cannot be solved by a single product or company alone. True system innovation requires deep, industry-wide collaboration.

That is why we are happy to announce that a new collaborative project by Mimbly, Electrolux Professional Group, and Samhall has been awarded a SEK 8.7 million grant from Water Wise Societies—an Impact Innovation program backed by Vinnova, Formas, and the Swedish Energy Agency.

The Mission: Sustainable Water for All by 2050

Funded under the national call "Sustainable Water for All by 2050," our joint project is designed to develop, test, and demonstrate a scalable, retrofit-based solution for circular water use in large-scale commercial laundry setups.

Instead of demanding that businesses undergo costly, unsustainable asset replacements, this project integrates Mimbly’s water-recycling and microplastic filtration technology directly into existing, large-scale professional washing systems.

Scaling the Mimbox to support high-capacity laundry machines also means scaling our impact. As Mimbly CEO and Co-founder Isabella Palmgren notes:

“This is not just about a product, but about enabling circular water use in an entire sector.”

What This Project Will Deliver:

By combining Mimbly's cutting-edge technology, Samhall’s live industrial operating environments, and Electrolux Professional’s international footprint, the partnership will deliver:

  • A Verified Retrofit Solution: Engineered to support existing large-scale professional machinery without requiring expensive equipment overhauls.

  • Rigorous Data & Proof: Continuous monitoring to document exact water savings and microplastic reduction in real-world environments.

  • A Commercial Blueprint: A viable, plug-and-play framework ready for rapid adoption across the global commercial laundry industry.

Changing How the World Uses Water

This partnership represents a major leap forward for sustainable laundry facilities. By proving that circular water solutions can be seamlessly retrofitted into the world's busiest laundry facilities, we aren't just transforming water management in Sweden, we are aiming to create a scalable blueprint built to change how the world uses water.

Stay tuned as we begin deploying, testing, and sharing the data from this groundbreaking project!
